Often referred to as Ground Zero, visiting the 9/11 memorial is a must when in New York City. Spend the day in lower Manhattan remembering the thousands of lives lost in the 9/11 terror attacks and the six lives lost at the World Trade Center bombing on February 26th, 1993. Led by a local guide with personal connections to the 9/11 attacks, hear firsthand stories as they take you through the history of Ground Zero.
The tour begins at St Paul’s Chapel, one of the oldest churches in New York. Built in 1766, hear about the history behind the landmark and how it helped the community after the 9/11 attacks. Then you’ll head to the 9/11 Memorial where the guide will tell you about the symbolic places in the memorial such as the Survivor Tree and the Reflecting Absence – the biggest man-made waterfall in North America.
Choose to enhance your experience by adding entry to the 9/11 Museum (the guide will leave you at the memorial). Located where the Twin Towers once stood, guests can view artefacts, imagery, and personal stories shown through the exhibits. The museum invites visitors to learn about the history of the 9/11 attacks through testimonies from survivors and personal stories from families who have been grieving their loved ones. Admire and appreciate the different exhibitions which contain over 74,000 personal artefacts that document the victims, survivors, and responders.
The main exhibition is the ‘Historical Exhibition’, which is split into three sections, each focusing on different time frames: the day of the attacks, the build-up before the attacks, and the aftermath and ongoing repercussions after. As one of the city’s most popular sites, this museum has devoted its time to help educate people worldwide about the tragedy that took place in 2001 and paying respect to all victims, survivors, and their families.
Upgrade your ticket and add entry to the One World Trade Center. Begin in the lobby where you’ll watch a short film dedicated to the people of the World Trade Towers before taking the Sky Pod elevator to the top of the tower. Here you’ll find breathtaking panoramic views of Manhattan!
